The Grazers Great Rift Adventure

The Grazers Great Rift Adventure

short
⏱ 4 days 📍 Queen Elizabeth NP

Overview

This isn’t just a sightseeing trip; it’s a deep dive into the heart of the Albertine Rift. From the primate-packed jungles of Kibale to the predator-rich savannahs of Queen Elizabeth National Park, Grazers African Adventures brings you face-to-face with the best of the “Pearl of Africa.” We trade the city noise for the hoot of a chimpanzee and the roar of a lion. Ready to graze on some adventure?

  • Duration: 4 Days / 3 Nights
  • Destinations: Lake Mburo National Park & Queen Elizabeth National Park
  • Highlights: Equator crossing, boat cruises, tree-climbing lions, and savanna game drives.

Permits: Chimp trekking permits secured and ready.
What Makes This a “Grazers” Adventure?

  • The Primate Connection: Go beyond the photos. Spend a morning tracking our closest cousins— the Chimpanzees—through the ancient canopy of Kibale Forest.
  • The Water Safari: We take the Kazinga Channel by storm. It’s one of the highest concentrations of hippos and elephants in the world. Keep your cameras ready; they don’t call it a “natural canal” for nothing.
  • The Climbing Kings: We head to the southern Ishasha sector. Most people look for lions on the ground; we look up. These famous tree-climbing lions are the ultimate “Grazers” bucket list item.
  • Expert Navigation: Our guides don’t just drive; they narrate the ecosystem, ensuring you understand the delicate balance of the African wilderness.
Note: This trip is fast-paced and high-energy—perfect for those who want to see the maximum amount of wildlife in a 4-day window.

Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Lake Mburo & Afternoon Boat Cruise

+

• Morning: Pick up from Kampala or Entebbe. Start the journey southwest with a classic stop at the Uganda Equator in Kayabwe for photos and the water experiment.
• Lunch: Enjoy a meal en route or upon arrival at your lodge in Lake Mburo.
• Afternoon: Embark on a 2-hour boat cruise on Lake Mburo. This is an excellent opportunity to see hippos, crocodiles, and vibrant birdlife like the African Fish Eagle and the rare Shoebill Stork.

Day 2: Morning Nature Walk & Transfer to Queen Elizabeth NP

+

• Morning: Experience a guided nature walk (safari on foot). Since Lake Mburo lacks heavy predators like lions, it is one of the few places where you can walk among zebras, giraffes, and elands for an up-close encounter.
• Mid-Morning: Depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park. The drive takes you through the scenic tea plantations of Bushenyi and the breathtaking Escarpment of the Albertine Rift Valley.
• Late Afternoon: Enter the park and check into your lodge. If time permits, enjoy a brief evening game drive in the crater lakes region.
• Dinner & Overnight: Queen Elizabeth National Park Area.

Day 3: Game Drive (Kasenyi) & Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise

+

• Morning: An early morning game drive in the Kasenyi Plains. This is the "lion's playground" and a prime area for spotting elephants, Uganda kobs, buffaloes, and if
lucky, leopards and hyenas. Lunch: Return to the lodge for a warm lunch and a brief rest.
• Afternoon: Take a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, a 40km natural waterway joining Lakes Edward and George. Expect to see the highest concentration of hippos in Africa, elephants bathing, and hundreds of bird species along the banks.
• Evening: An evening game drive along the Channel Track to catch predators as they begin their night hunt.
• Dinner & Overnight: Queen Elizabeth National Park Area.

Day 4: Ishasha Tree-Climbing Lions & Return to Kampala

+

• Morning: After an early breakfast, drive south to the Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth NP. This area is world-famous for its tree-climbing lions, often found lounging in the branches of giant fig trees.
• Lunch: Enjoy a picnic lunch or a meal at a local restaurant in fortportal.
• Afternoon: Begin the return journey to Kampala/Entebbe, passing through the beautiful tea plantations.
• Evening: Arrival at your preferred drop-off point, marking the end of the safari.
