Overview

The tour’s highlight is the unique opportunity to track two of Africa’s most magnificent primates: the chimpanzees of Kibale National Park and the endangered mountain gorillas of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. In Kibale, you’ll delve into the “Primate Capital of the World,” following the calls of the chimpanzees through the forest canopy. The final stop takes you to the ancient, misty forests of Bwindi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a sanctuary for half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. The trek to see these gentle giants in their natural habitat is a powerful and unforgettable experience.

This journey is a feast for the senses, with scenic drives, diverse wildlife viewing, and a chance to experience Uganda’s rich biodiversity. The tour concludes with a drive back to Entebbe/Kampala, leaving you with memories of an authentic African wildlife safari.

Embark on a thrilling 5-day, road-based safari that takes you deep into the heart of Uganda’s primate sanctuaries. This express tour is designed for travelers with limited time who wish to experience two of Africa’s most iconic wildlife encounters: tracking chimpanzees in the lush forests of Kibale National Park and coming face-to-face with the magnificent mountain gorillas in the ancient, misty Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Your journey begins with a scenic drive from Kampala, traversing the stunning landscapes of western Uganda. You’ll spend a day immersed in the world of chimpanzees, witnessing their playful and complex social behaviors. The adventure then continues to the legendary Bwindi, where you’ll undertake a once- in-a-lifetime gorilla trekking experience, a truly humbling and unforgettable encounter. The tour concludes with a return journey to Kampala or Entebbe, leaving you with memories of Uganda’s extraordinary biodiversity and the profound beauty of its natural heritage.

Itinerary

Day 1: Kampala / Entebbe to Kibale National Park

Morning: Your driver/guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe. The journey to
Kibale National Park is a full-day's drive (approximately 5-6 hours) through scenic landscapes, including
traditional homesteads, lush plantations, and small towns.

Lunch: Stop for a relaxed lunch en route.
Afternoon: Arrive at your accommodation near Kibale National Park. Check in and take some time to
relax and settle in.

Evening: Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay, preparing for the next day's chimpanzee tracking.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale & Transfer to Bwindi

Morning: After an early breakfast, you'll head to the Kibale National Park visitor center for a briefing on
chimpanzee tracking. A park ranger will lead you into the forest to search for the habituated chimpanzee communities. The trek can last anywhere from 2 to 4 hours, depending on the location of the
chimpanzees. You will spend up to one hour observing the chimpanzees as they play, groom, and feed.

Afternoon: Return to your lodge for lunch. After lunch, begin the transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable
National Park. This is a scenic drive (approximately 4-5 hours) through the Ishasha sector of Queen
Elizabeth National Park (if the route allows), offering a chance to spot tree-climbing lions.

Evening: Arrive at your lodge on the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World
Heritage site.

Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

Morning: The highlight of the tour! After an early breakfast, you'll be driven to the park headquarters
for a briefing on gorilla trekking etiquette and safety. You will be assigned to a gorilla family group and will begin your trek into the dense forest with an armed ranger. The trek can be strenuous and take
anywhere from 2 to 8 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas.

Afternoon: Upon locating the gorilla family, you will have a magical hour to observe and photograph them. This is an incredible opportunity to witness their complex social structures and gentle behaviors.

Evening: Return to your lodge, where you can relax, share stories of your trek, and enjoy a well-
deserved dinner.

Overnight stay

Day 4: Second Gorilla Trek / Nature Walk / Community Visit

Morning: Enjoy a second, optional gorilla trek (requires a second permit and advance booking).
Alternatively, choose from other activities such as a guided nature walk, a community visit to the local
Batwa (Pygmy) people, or simply relax at the lodge and soak in the beautiful surroundings.

Lunch: Lunch will be at your lodge.

Afternoon: The rest of the afternoon is at your leisure.

Evening: Dinner and overnight at the same lodge.

Day 5: Bwindi to Kampala / Entebbe

Morning: After a final breakfast at your lodge, you'll begin the long but scenic return journey to Kampala
or Entebbe (approximately 8-10 hours).

Lunch: Stop for a lunch break on the way.
Afternoon: The drive offers a final chance to appreciate the stunning Ugandan countryside.

Evening: Your driver/guide will drop you off at your hotel or the Entebbe International Airport in time
for your departure flight.
